Pierce County leaders participated in a one-day "Community Economic Development Orientation Program” (CEDOP ©) on December 15, 2010 in Atlanta. The program, sponsored by Satilla Electric Membership Corporation (EMC) and conducted by Georgia Electric Membership Corporation (Georgia EMC), was designed to assist the community in its efforts to create and retain jobs for Pierce County.
The Pierce County session is part of an ongoing program offered by Satilla EMC, through Georgia EMC’s Community Economic Development Team, to address the specific needs of Georgia communities in seeking to improve their economic development efforts. The group heard presentations on Georgia EMC’s Community Economic Development resources including how to attract retail development and how to market your community using technology. Presentations on Tourism Product Development and the Site Selection Process were made by the Georgia Department of Economic Development. The Georgia Department of Community Affairs also made a presentation on the importance on downtown development as an economic development job creation tool.
The overall purpose of the day long program was to provide community leaders with resources and information related to multiple strategies of job creation including tourism, downtown development, retail development and traditional manufacturing and distribution recruitment. All of the resources presented are complimentary to Pierce County.
Providing such training programs is one of several ways that Satilla EMC, supports the economic development efforts of the communities in their service territory.
